Pavillion Officially Open!

(c) Graham Hobbs 2012

A successful grand opening was held on Saturday 21 April 2012 with Pete Jeffery cutting the ribbon. Following the toss Westleigh Old Boys were put into bat on a bright but windy afternoon and managed to score 148 all out with James Ford scoring a customary half century. With course knowledge in their favour and exploiting the variable bounce wickets fell regularly with Luke Landolfi taking 4 of the wickets. In reply Lee Farrant and Luke Purkiss took the score past 100 with the loss of only 1 wicket, a comfortable victory looked on the cards. But a sudden collapse left Westleigh requiring 12 runs with only 2 wickets remaining. Luckily club captain James Corry was at the crease and a huge 6 brought up a close fought win.

A great spectacle of cricket and an enjoyable afternoon was had by all, with the spirit of Westliegh CC reignited. The club would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their hard work and support in particular we would like to thank Christie Estates, The England & Wales Cricket Board, Torridge District Council (Rodney Cann), North Devon Council (Brian Moores), North Devon Cricket Club, Bideford Bridge Trust, Bideford Round Table and Thre Rotary Club for their assistance in funding. We would also like to thank club members Ken Barron, Peter Wilson, Dave Pedlar, Dave Morgan, Robert Tythcott, John Eastleigh and Mike Snell for their kind donations. Most of all we would like to thank Ian Cox of Greencliff Ltd without who the building of our new Pavillion would not have been possible.
